The 2296.80.00 has a polished bezel inlaid with 18K rose gold, links with solid 18K rose gold. The case and bracelet is made with titanium blended with tantalum (a heavy and chemically resistant element). A few web sites say tantalum is similar to aluminum. They may sound the same but they are completely different.
The 2297.80.00 has all the above but with 18K yellow gold and (to my knowledge) just titanium. The bezel also has a matt finish.
The retail price of the 2297.80 is $4995, the 2296.80 is $5800 US.
I think Omega is no longer making these two models. They are being replaced with the America's Cup Chrono. Which ever ones you find are just remaining stock. Hope this helps.
