Re: Chronograph? Useless clutter, or useful extra

My first Omega was a white Chrono. Man was it big and thick. I got rid of it. It was just too much and i didn't need or want the chrono.

I now have a black SMP full size. Nice just right.

If you want a chrono function, get a Timex Ironman. I have one of these also.

: Opinions on the chronograph??

: I have often admired chronograph style watches
: from afar however when I actually have a
: chrono in my hands two things always strike
: me.

: One, I HATE that seconds are always counted off
: by a small dial. This really bothers me. I
: see no reason why the small dials should not
: be reserved for the stop watch while time is
: told by the main dial. If chronos had the
: normal second hand arrangement I would find
: them a lot more appealing.

: Two, the chrono is useless. I remember reading
: a post ether here or on time zone that
: suggested that the last legit use of a
: chrono was during the Apollo 13 disaster
: when it was uses to time the eagles rocket
: burn. Since then chrono have almost always
: been used for unnecessary reasons like food
: prep or doing laundry. I know that when I do
: food prep or laundry I am more that able to
: use the minute hand on my smp to time
: myself. I can not see any reason to have a
: chrono on my watch other than to look nice,
: and the fact that the second hand does not
: work as normal takes away from this.

: One good thing about a Chrono is that the two
: extra buttons do look nice.

: Anyone else care to offer there opinions on
: chrono's. I would prob be able to stand them
: a little better if only the second hand
: worked normally.
