Re: Watch to income ratio
In Response To: Watch to income ratio ()

Years ago, while in the US Navy I made a decision that I would live to regret. Instead of the Rolex Submariner date ($720) I purchased a Honda CB750F motorcycle ($2000). On what I made, I couldn't rationalize spending the then princely sum of $720 on a watch, but a $2000 motocycle was easily rationalize (hey, it's got a motor, is fast and fun and is another form of transportation).

Well, the MC is long gone. I'd still have the Rolex if I had bought it and could easily get my money back on it if I wanted to.

Anyway, to each his own. A fine timepiece will be your companion probably until the day you die. A vehicle, unless you're talking about something exotic, will only be with you for a few years and the "newness" usually dies off fast.
