What you think you can afford has a lot to do with the social prof circles you run in. If all your pals are blowing money on Rolex watches suddenly the price starts to seem not to bad.
I'd be embarrassed to wear a Rolex around 90% of the people I know. They would look at me like I have my priorities really messed up. Omega isn't as bad because it's not as well known, and the price is somewhat better.
