: Is this a taboo question? I've been a loyal
: Omega customer for many years. I now find
: myself intrigued by another brand. What are
: your thoughts about Panerai.

Panerai sure seems to have a loyal cult following. Go read the timezone.com Panerai brand forum. They are very large and have mostly refinished ETA movements. I do like the SHAPE of the standard (with locking devise) case and their dials are well designed. In terms of "haut horology", they are nothing special...IMO.
They are a "resurrected" brand name, and in my opinion, the super large watch craze will come and go. They change designs/details every year and this is not attractive to me.
There is no question that they are "attention getters". The question you have to ask yourself is what kind of attention will you be getting. Panerai does not seem to be an "everyday" wearer to me.
But, as written many times on this forum, buy the timepiece that YOU like.
