I know a 5.5mm thick strap works well with the regular size SMP and that the Chronogaph is noticably thicker. I don't expect there to be a problem with the 8mm.

You can use the existing spring bars. Though a couple of spares can be helpful as it is possible -- like with any springy part -- to lose one while changing the band.
Also realize that the springbar tool that Banda sells is for changing STRAPS and does not have the right end to get into the small slots on the SMPC bracelet to release it. Best tool for that is the FB-504 shown at the link below:
