: Hi, does anyone know if it is cheaper to buy an
: Omega over in Switzerland compared to
: purchasing it in the US? Thanks.
Hi, I spent around 2 years debating my Bond Seamaster 2531.80. In that time I travlled quite a bit with my work and looked at several SMPs in different countries:
US Phoenix, AZ Street Price was $1900 + Tax! (this was a special deal!!). They would not drop the tax. Nov 2003
US Internet about $1200 (not "authorized dealer")
Wales/UK Street Price seems to be £1100 (around $1870)
UK/Holland Duty Free price is £900, 1352 Euro (around $1530) May 2004
I visited a dealer in Locarno, Switzerland who was able to beat the above price and it would qualify as Tax Free for tourists (you may need your passport and flight ticket as evidence). You need to check the currency level with the Swiss Franc (oanda.com) not the Euro. Jan 2004
Canada duty free at Toronto airport was more expensive than downtown. Mar 2004
Mexico City duty free was extortionate. Feb 2004
I would buy one in the US, but my decision is biased as the Pound/Dollar exchange rate makes the US a lot cheaper at the moment.
For authorized dealers maybe Switzerland is cheaper than the USA and it would be nice to buy an Omega in Switzerland.
I paid the premium and went for the authorized dealer although the US internet prices would have given me nearly 30% discount on my final purchase.
Hope this helps
