Thank you for you very useful comments.
I will post the pic on the MWR Watch Forum. I had not noticed the length of the hands, but, yes, now I can see what you mean - I guess after 36 years, it is not too suprising that something will have been changed or refurbished and lost it a little originality. For me, for a watch of this age (and for the price paid) this is not the end of the world - I really like the look and feel of this watch (even with those hands!).
I'll also send the SN off to Omega. I'll post back any interesting information I receive.
