ABSOLUTE NONSENSE!
I bought my very first new Omega from an authorised Omega dealer here in the UK just a few days ago - a 300 M Chronograph - a watch I have been saving up for for over a year. This watch retails at £1600 in the UK. The dealer spent quite some time demonstrating the watch to me and showing me that all the packaging etc was in order and I would have happily paid the full £1600 but asked the dealer if he was able to offer me any discount. Without batting an eyelid he offered me 10% discount (£160) - money that can be put toward my NEXT Omega.
As it happened, the store had a Speedmaster Split Seconds on sale for £1250 - 50% off the retail price - I could have bought this watch and saved myself more money and had a more expensive watch into the bargain. If I was buying the watch purely to show off to other people and brag about how much it retails for and how much I had saved this is what I would have done. However I simply did not 'love' the speedmaster as I did the 300 M Chronograph - this watch is for me to wear and appreciate - it's a bonus if other people like it as well but don't care a toss if everyone else thinks it stinks - it's mine, I love it and I managed to save £160 off the retail price - I'm happly as Larry:)
