A "serious" quartz watch must have some kind of power reserve indicator. I think all the SMP quartz models go to a four-second tick when the battery goes low, as do all the British service issue quartz watches. I suspect both are using very similar better quality ETA movments.
Something to check before you buy a quartz watch unless it's a "disposable".
