Of my five OMEGA watches, I wear my Dynamic Date the most. It is a great all-around watch which looks great on any of a number of strap options. Currently, mine is on a black NATO strap. But I also wear it on black shark, brown suede and even yellow alligator straps.
: The Dynamic Date is not COSC certified, but
: it's one of the most accurate mechanical
: watches I've ever had. And, for what I've
That's because it has the same movement used in many of OMEGA's much more expensive watches like the Seamaster Pro and many DeVille and Constellation models. The only difference between the 1108 and the 1109 is the COSC certification -- an arguably unnecessary test.
: I think it's a pity the Dynamic line has been
: discontinued by Omega and wonder if it will
: ever be replaced.
Probably will not be replaced as such. OMEGA seems to be following a strategy of moving further upscale. So I do not expect to see any more basic-line models like the Dynamic anytime soon.
OMEGA told me that the Dynamic Chrono was a decent seller, but that the Date version was not -- at least until after they discontinued production of it.
My belief is that the mediocre response to the Dynamic was due to OMEGA's odd choice of bracelet and straps to sell it on. The bracelet was one of OMEGA's weaker designs -- taken from the base model Speedmaster -- which was a hair puller for some guys.
The strap choices were only red, yellow or an offbeat bomber-jacket grayish-brown. Not exactly mainstream colors. How many guys would spend $995 on a watch that came on a strap they felt needed to be immediately replaced before it could be used as an everyday watch?
Had OMEGA sold the Dynamic on more traditional black and brown leather straps, I believe the watch would have been a runaway hit.
Instead, it took a few more years before OMEGA got this mix right to produce the runaway hit the Dynamic could have been for them. The result was the new Railmaster, a watch with the Dynamic's mix of a simple, clean cut steel case, minimal bezel, matte black dial with highly legible hands and dial markings -- but advertised on a classy *brown* strap with a black one available too!
