This was one of the questions that I asked too when I first got my watch. The manual says that position 2 is non functional. I didn't know that there was a date change mechanism until i discoverd it by accident while trying to change the time....i didn't pull the crown all the way out to position 3. But thanks to the people from this board I had my problem solved.
