The answer is that the symbol Greg was seeing on the white outer box and on the pictogram card of a box/book with the number 3 on it is NOT A YEAR OF PRODUCTION.
All it means is that the watch came with the new 2003 edition universal owner's manual. While that might IMPLY the watch was manufactured at least somewhere around or after 2003, it does not guarantee that the watch was actually produced in 2003.
The OMEGA chain of production and delivery is not so precise that you can safely make assumptions like that.
Plus, I thought it did not make sense that a year of production would be indicated on the outer white box or warranty card -- that would be stupid, since boxes and papers are often accidentally swapped or lost by dealers.
