: The fact that automatic watches require
: periodic servicings ALONE is reason enough
: to provide a manufacture date.
Baloney. A mechanical watch does not accumulate need for service while sitting in a display case or inventory vault. Periodic service for a mechanical watch is only needed only after the watch has had s number of years of regular use.
: Think of Toyota telling people they will no
: longer will provide year/model information
: as it would needlessly confuse them and
: cause the dealers more hassle in trying to
: sell them.
Terrible example, as cars DO have model years and that information is needed to legally describe the product, register for license tags and determine resale and insurance values.
Luxury watches and other jewelry follow a very different set of rules. No model years. Valuation is based mostly on condition, materials and rarity -- not age.
