As a former science teacher, I used to spend much of my teaching time debunking bizarre myths such as "Lock Ness Monster", "Moon Landing Fraud", "UFOs" and such. There are also people out there that deny that the Holocaust occured...there is even still a "Flat Earth Society". I had a heck of a good time dealing with the Creationists at my last school (sarcasm)...even at a private school with no religious affiliation.
Even in this modern age, made available to us by the most important intellectual development ever, the scientific method, there are folks who will believe irrational things.
