Re: Don't be so quick to believe misreported rumor

: That's why such rumors get reported -- they
: sound reasonable. But they are WRONG. Just
: because it sounds plausible does not make it
: true.

Well, this wasn't just any old Internet rumor - it's running through the AP. Until MGM directly refutes the report, I see no reason not to take it seriously.

: But hopefully, it may continue to be an OMEGA
: watch. Just not the same classic blue SMP.

Which model do you see as being a good replacement? I sort of half way wouldn't mind seeing Bond wear a Rolex again.

: I *totally* disagree. Just because your
: interest in Brosnan might only be because he
: is Bond doesn't mean that everyone else
: loses interest in him once he retires from
: that role.

: Brosnan is still an A-List Hollywood actor.

A List? Hardly. He hasn't done any movies that have have had nearly the success, by any measure, as the 4 Bond movies.

: Plus, like Connery, Lazenby, Moore and Dalton
: who preceeded him, he is stepping down from
: active duty, but will still always be James
: Bond -- just not the current one. Likewise,
: the Rolex Submariner and the OMEGA Seamaster
: Professional will also always be a Bond
: watch. The four movies Brosnan and the SMP
: have appeared in will never go away.

That's true, and about the only rationale I can see for Omega to spend the money to maintain Brosnan as an ambassador.

: Even better for OMEGA would be to have
: *multiple* James Bond actors on the team
: promoting multiple models or lines of
: watches. Brosnan as the old-school Bond and
: (insert new actor here) as the new-school
: Bond.

I'm not sure their money is best spent maintaining a stable of "James Bonds" - makes more economic sense to me to maintain them sequentially, and not concurrently.
