I remember taking a class in "The American Novel" in college and learned more about Economics from Frank Norris' "The Octopus" than from most business classes. When asked by an irate farmer what the railroad company used to set its shipping prices on wheat from California's central valley (always just enough that the farmers never made money)...his answer was, "Whatever the market will bear!" It's not about cost, not about right, not about fair, it's about...what the market will bear. Um, God bless America!
