Yes, the ScotchBrite green pads work wonders on my clasp too. Just keep it away from the polished stainless steel links.
You can cut very small pieces of this and glue it to an appropriately sized wooden stick such as balsa wood or even plastic sheet stock and touch-up the matt finished parts of the links as well.
