Those last two are the closest to the real answer I was looking for. Z.O.W.I.E. was the secret US government organization of the good guys in the Our Man Flint and In Like Flint spy spoof movies of the late 1960s. The extra connection there is the hero of those films, Derek Flint, shares my first name.
