This has been asked many times. Starting this year, OMEGA is adding that on certain models. The symbol actually is an OMEGA logo inside a wireframe globe.
No official statement from OMEGA on why, but our conjecture is that it is an intentionally difficult to produce feature to make it near impossible for counterfeiters to copy on their fakes.
