I have been contemplating buying my father a new Speedmaster Broad Arrow for Christmas, as he seems to really love this watch. Specifically, he likes model 3851.20.12 which comes on a brown alligator strap and retails for $4295.
I have always found Omegas to be a great buy for the money, but this particular model strikes me as being overpriced. My rationale for thinking this is based on my own recent purchase of a DeVille Power Reserve model on a bracelet. Compare what you get for the money:
1) DeVille power reserve on bracelet MSRP = $4495, Speedy Broad Arrow on strap MSRP = $4295
2) The DeVille is co-axial with a 3 year warranty, the Speedy is not co-axial and has only a 2 year warranty.
3) The DeVille comes with a bracelet that is quite expensive and is a work of art in itself, the Speedy comes with a much cheaper alligator strap.
4) The DeVille has a Power Reserve dial, the Speedy does not.
The Speedy is a chronograph, which certainly adds some cost to the watch, and it is $200 cheaper than the DeVille. Still, when you can buy a Seamaster chronograph for $2995 retail on a bracelet, what makes this watch worth $1300 more?
I'm hoping someone can educate me on this watch since I am not as familiar with the Speedmaster line as I am with Omega's other lines. Thank you for your help.
