Re: Quartz vs. Automatic for college grad

P.S. I say get him a quartz Tag. It's why they exist, pretty much -- to fill the role of "nice watch" for people who just want a "nice watch" but have never thought about what that might be.

My two cents on the quartz v. mechanical debate -- they both have their place. Mechanical watches are like LP's, old British sports cars, expensive scotches, etc. -- there's a lot of enjoyment to be had if that kind of thing floats your boat. But if you don't give a crap or don't have money to burn you're better off with the mass produced and cheap exception every time. Either way there's no reason to sport a superiority complex because you like auto watches. It's just a hobby and if someone doesn't share it, he doesn't share it. Not appreciating watches is not a reflection of another person's character, unless he knows or cares about nothing at all.
