Check Out The Owners Zone

Michael,

Check out the Owners Zone on this forum and read through it thoroughly. In my opinion, the detailed information in there is what should come with the owners manual. Derek Ziglar (the webmaster) wrote it, and I used it over two years ago to learn how to properly use my model 2531.80.

The quick basics - Make sure your watch is fully wound before you wear it. You can do this by unscrewing the crown and turning it about 40 full revolutions. When you hear a clicking noise as you wind it, this is the overwind protection mechanism kicking in, indicating that the watch is fully wound. You cannot overwind the watch, but you don't need to keep winding it every day as long as you wear it. The motion of your wrist keeps it wound (hence the term "self-winding"), and by unscrewing the crown every day unnecessarily all you'll do is wear out the gaskets faster.

Again, read the Owners Zone thoroughly. There's lots of great information in there.
