There is more to it...

Dear Brian,
Your observation applies to many of those fakes however on this one the crown guard is much deeper than the GMT's. The lower border of it almost matches the outside border of the bezel (as it should). The shape is wrong however, instead of being like \_/ it is a “U”.
Those fakes are getting better by the hour. Some obvious indications are unfortunately not truth anymore (exp. fluorescent marker on the bezel which now is in many cases almost perfect in size!!!).
Fortunately there are still some outside differences which allow to spot the fake but I have a feeling that it will not stay that way for long.
Some things to still look for are:
- dial in general
- helium valve placement (on many it is placed slightly too low)
- crown guard
- font on the calendar (one of many mistakes here is a difference between number “one” in “11” and for example in “12”).
- tread under the crown
- etc...

The day when the movement will be the only indication of the authenticity is just around the corner.... hmmm... a little scary... :-(

Regards,
Darek
