Dear Michael,
Position 2nd is designed to do the following things:
1st - to change the hour without stopping the watch and...
2nd - to change the date by turning the hour hand past 12 o’clock required number of times.
There is no date only change position.
Movements based on ETA 2892 (and variations of this movement such as ETA 2892-A2 for example used on SMP GMT as 1128) are known for the ability to change the date at any time without the 8PM - 2AM limitation however traditionally most of us are not comfortable doing it.
