Total idiocy. First, his ROLEX number is about right -- but OMEGA makes a hell of a lot more watches than 30,000. Most of their reporting is the financial value of watches sold. But we know their chronometer certifications are in the 150,000 range, most of the Speedmaster line is not certified and that quartz models outsell the mechanicals by a huge margin. So I would estimate OMEGAs total production to be at least 750,000 watches a year -- probably more.
Second, his supposition that a small production count equals better quality control is wrong. It is well provent that larger scale production has far better economies of scale in quality control. More units made equals more units tested equals more subtle problems identified and resolved.
That salesman was a fool and is giving out patheticly wrong information.
