Re: My $0.02/Omega Man
In Response To: Re: My $0.02 ()

: I debated whether to get a GMT seamaster or a Bond Style Omega.
I went to the jewelry store and liked both. The GMT was 30% off and the Bond was 15 % off. I had them size both of them to my wrist. First of all it took almost an hour for them to figure out how to size the bracelets. After the long wait (with a rather bitchy saleswomen-who kept saying "maybe you'll have to come back next week") I was told by the sales-manager "you won't believe what I went through to size these" I guess they don't sell that many Omegas!
Anyway, I tried on first the GMT and it sucked. The watch was to top heavy and the crown protruded into my hand. That would hurt after a while. The bracelet's clasp was difficult for me to close and it had a rather gaudy "golden" omega square which looked out of place (since there is not gold anywhere on the watch.
The Bond watch was next. I tried it on and it was PERFECT. It was like silk on my wrist.
A few months ago I was going to purchase a Rolex GMT Master II at other jewelry store. I'm am glad I did not. The GMT had the red and blue dial it was nice looking. But I always felt that a Rolex was a symbol of excessive wealth not smart buying. A Rolex to me now says "hey I have so much money I can buy this piece of steel for 5,000 dollars and justify it" Rolex was more of a compromise of comfort for style. The Omega is a understatement. Only people in the "know" will know it is a Seamaster. It is a unique look but nothing like a distinctive Rolex.
I work Downtown Cincinnati Ohio and some areas are pretty rough. I can wear the Seamaster anywhere and not be worried about someone killing me for it. Rolex's can be magnets for the wrong kind of people. I want to project a feeling of prestige but not money A Rolex is like wearing cash on your wrist. You can probably get at least 500 dollars cash off the street for a Rolex if someone stole it An Omega is an awesome watch but there isn't that temptation for someone to rob you..
In closing the Seamaster Bond watch was the watch for me. I saw it 5 years ago and have loved it ever since. I am glad I am finally an Omega Man.
