Re: Why people assume that what Rolex does is righ

Though when you look at the transformation of the Seamaster line that began with the Bond smp it does seem that Omega has made a choice to move that line in the Rolex direction. While keeping the looks slightly more up to date.

Bond SMP is a lot like the sub...AT is a lot like the DJ...

36' AT is so much like the DJ that I'm not sure I wouldn't mistake it for one at a glance. Close up though I love It...after all I just got one.

: Nice watch! Conrats and welcome to the club!
: Don't let other people's poor thinking make
: you believe you have chosen second best.

: I find it curious that some people seem to
: assume that whatever ROLEX does is the
: perfect thing to do and any competing brands
: like OMEGA are inferior for not doing things
: the way ROLEX does. Sorry, but I greatly
: disagree with that thinking. ROLEX has the
: unique position for being publicly perceived
: to be the best-of-the-best. They can be
: extraordinarily overconservative in their
: methods and get away with it because many
: people buy ROLEX based on *assumptions* of
: their superiority--not a true evaluation of
: which brand offers the best combination of
: values for that person's needs.

: Competing brands have to try all that harder to
: get past that public perception. OMEGA uses
: a somewhat similarly conservative approach,
: without getting too stale or stuffy. OMEGA
: accomodates the need of modern buyers by
: keeping their designs conservative, but
: fresh and is not afraid to tailor some
: models for different regions.

: I do agree that OMEGA has gone somewhat
: overboard with the number of models and
: variations -- especially since their
: authorized dealers cannot carry more than a
: fraction of them in a typical store.

: But when you are publicly perceived as #2, you
: have to try harder to compete against who
: everyone thinks is #1.
