On both cases you can look at more then one reason for this

1 second hand loose on pipe

2 watch has not been serviced for some time (4 years plus)

3 broken part in watch

Cost would depend on fault service cost is �120 to replace a hand is around �30. You have will have to have it checked by a watchmaker
