My first really good watch was a Rolex. That was bought 20 years ago when a SS DateJust could still be had for $900. Oh how I wish I had splurged a little more then and bought a Submariner instead.
Certainly Rolex has "the big dog rules" position in the market. I don't begrudge them making lots of money off of their products. But their approach also places them outside my area of interest for any future new watch purchases.
I'm currently find it a lot more fun collecting $150-300 vintage pieces now anyway. So I have no idea what it would take to make me ever splurge on a new Rolex or similar watch in the future.
