Re: Need Help With Watch Decision: Omega vs. Rolex

You're true, John and Derek. I paid for my SM AC-Racing 3000 euros (from 3700 as its former sales price), a timepiece with a 3602 movement which is considerably enhanced with respect to the classical 3135 Rolex movement. But alas!, most people thinks that a Rolex Sea-Dweller is much more expensive and...better? than Omega.
To name a few, what can we tell about the bracelet?. No words to compare the Omega bracelet and clasp with the Rolex bracelet. I talked about it with the Rolex retailer, and she still denied what it is evident for anybody familiar with mechanical assembly...No need to do so, because I was going to buy the Rolex anyway, but when I showed her my SM clasp the conversation finished.
This also lead us to the eternal question about why most Rolex people is touched by a veil of grace for reasons I cannot understand. Yes, I wear Rolex and Omega, and I can recognize lights and shadows in both firms. I can recognize that Rolex has a well known name, probably due to a finest propaganda effort: superlative chronometer, perepetual rotor,...words at all. Should Omega change its sales policy? In fact I have observed an increase in the prices and a reduction in the number of collection items. But is Omega really interested on it?. Should Omega change its frontface in alliegance of exclusiveness? For those who like and know about timepieces, probably it is not necessary. Only those who wear a luxury timepiece with the aim of impressing the people around would buy a Rolex without searching for other brands. But to impress oneself, maybe my old 10 years Seiko Flightmaster (really a good watch!!) is enough...
