So for only the second time since getting my SMP chrono 2 months ago, it stopped, and I had to hand wind it. I unscrewed the crown (to position 1), and wound it clockwise (forward). Instead of the smooth motion of winding, there was a clearly audible clicking about every other turn. This didn't feel right.
I pulled the crown out to postition 2, and the calendar still worked, as well as the position 3 time-setting. Winding again from position 1 about 20 turns, there was still only this clicking. Three hours later, the watch had stopped again, indicating to me that the watch was not hand winding.
This sounds to me like a mechanical problem. I have a few questions:
1. Can anyone recommend an in warranty service in NY?
2. Should I request or otherwise expect a replacement this early in its life? The watch is in near-perfect condition.
3. What the heck could have happened to it?
