From my experience, the pickpockets on the subways in Barcelona are WAY worse than the ones in NYC!! As far as someone taking away your watch, there's very little to worry about unless you have one of the rare SOLID GOLD SeMP's. NYC is FULL of people with more money than you or I will ever have, and between those people with their REAL gold Rolex watches and all the street vendors selling fake gold Rolex watches, nobody will look twice at an Omega SeMP. As the others have said, all the tourist areas in NYC are very heavily policed, and it's a neat place to visit.
