I agree with Chuck. There's an "implied warranty of merchantability" that goes along with any item you purchase. This means that the item must be fit for the purpose for which it was intended. A stopwatch that does not work is not fit for its intended purpose of recording time. Thus, the dealer has an obligation to take it back and exchange it or refund your money.
The dealer can always get full credit when they return the watch to Omega as damaged goods, so they have no reason in the world NOT to keep a customer happy and accept the return. I would not leave the shop until I had a new watch or my money back.
