Engraving Stopped My SMP !?

Dear Omega SMP Afficionados,

Engraving stopped my SMP, so I am looking for some advice.

After one of my godfathers passed away a few months ago and left me a pleasant gift of cash in his will, I wanted something to remember him by, so purchased a new Omega Seamaster Professional Full Size Automatic (Bond Version). A local trophy engraver used a diamond tipped "drill" to engrave "Magnus Ramsay From Godfather Colin Campbell June 2005" onto the back of the watch.

Unfortunately the watch has stopped. The local Omega dealer here in Belfast, Northern Ireland has sent it back to Omega to be repaired. The dealer tells me that the watch's warranty could be invalid due to the engraving. He advised me that all mechanical watches are very delicate and that he takes off his Rolex Sub to play golf

I chose the SMP because it is a professional divers' watch, believing that it should be pretty tough. I cannot imagine that Omega advises professional divers to take off their watches for manual work when they are suspended under 100s of feet of murky water!

Please advise me.

Thank you,

Magnus Ramsay
