Re: The Caseback Was Not Removed

: I should note that for both fine watches and
: fine firearms, engraving is NOT done with
: some diamond pointed electric vibrator!!
: Since Medieval times steel on prized
: possessions has been engraved with the use
: of very small, very sharp, and case hardened
: steel chisels, and the metal is
: "dug" out just like a wood carver
: does it. (Well, almost the same technique..)
: I would think any truly competent jewler
: with his own machine shop would be able to
: do this with no problem.

: Unfortunately, the electric diamond engraving
: tool is the lowest common denominator in
: today's society, and that's what you wind up
: with if you're not careful. Even a small
: diamond grinding point would send far less
: vibration into a watch than "a jewler's
: vibrator", a.k.a. the Damned Diamond
: D....

Hi Sam,

Thank you for your advice.

The jeweller who did the engraving quoted me GBP £ 10 (about U.S. $ 18) to do the engraving. I offered the jeweller £ 20 to ensure that the engraving was done correctly. The jeweller assured me that they had engraved thousands of watches so I felt assured.

Hopefully Omega can repair the watch within its warranty.

I wish that I had known what I know now before.

Magnus
