hi,
i am a thoroughly frustrated Omega Speedmaster "automatic" owner in SoCal. the watch was purchased at an authorized dealer.
after 2.2 years (just after warranty expired), the hour hand fell off! i took it to Fred Meyer Jewelers in Del Amo Mall in Torrance, Ca and they sent it off to Omega for repair for an astounding $400 (they later reduced to $300).
a month ago, the watch stopped "self-winding" via the "automatic" function and the watch was dropped off at Morgan's Jewelers in Palos Verdes, Ca where they advised a part needed to be replaced (a reverse wheel?).
I got the watch back last saturday and low and be hold, nothing changed. when i wake up in the morning, the watch is not running and has stopped around 3-4 am, about 3 hours after i took it off.
Morgan's is now stating that the watch needs a $650 service. the watch is 3.5 years old and that sounds ridiculous to me (do not go to Morgan's, they have the worst customer service).
my question is this
a) are Omega automatic speedmasters known to be this unreliable?
b) can you recommend any reliable watch repair men in the SoCal area? I am not sending it back to Omega for $500+ repair bill.
Thanks!
