Re: about breitling movements
In Response To: Re: about breitling movements ()

: Actually, if you watch the video on Breitling's
: website, you'll see that their caliber 13
: movement used in the Chronomat is a VERY
: heavily modified ETA movement. I agree that
: Omega's co-axial movement is superb and I do
: happen to prefer Omega watches, but to say
: that Breitling "doesn't play in the
: same ground as Omega" is a bit harsh.
: Even the founder of this website (rest his
: soul) placed Omega, Rolex, and Breitling in
: the same category. I have found that my
: Breitling keeps superb time, as do my
: Omegas. Also, Breitling's prices and dealer
: discounts fall into the same range as Omega
: (not so with Rolex, obviously), so I believe
: they are both quality brands that give you a
: good watch for the money. That being said, I
: still prefer my Omegas.....
Yes but I was at my watchmaker last year and he showed me Breitling watches and their movements. They are far to match Omega or Rolex quality. The best moffied version of the valjoux wit hthe nicest finish is the Omega 1154 the one found in the seamaster diver chronomter much more better than the calibre 13 in finish and quality. The cal 13 has better finish, better balance and spiral but it doesn't have an improved winding system like the 1154 and fausses côtes de genève decoration as well as a nivarox far II isochronic hair spring. My 54 years old 1951 seamaster automatic keeps near 2 second per day I have never seen a Breitling which is that old having the same accuracy. I have many other vintage omegas that are still more accurate than modern cosced watches. I wil ltell you why Breitling is not in the same ground than Omega and Rolex. They don't havea column wheel chronograph movement, they wer never winners at chronometric competitions like Omega, Longines, Rolex and Zenith during the 30's early 60's. They never manufactured their own movement like Omega and Rolex did in the past and do now.The founder of this site has his views, but I am talking to you in the way my watchmaker (+25 years of experience so he is far to be a noob) talked to me or very serious collectors I know talked with me. I was said that buying watches just because of the marketing, advertisement is not always good.I was often advised to buy a watch according to how good is its movement and it is better.
Wear your breitling in good health and enjoy your Omegas.
