I fit into this "strongly opposed" category. Frankly, it doesn't matter how "reputable" the gray market dealer is, it is still a gray market dealer. As such, you are taking the same gamble you would in dealing with any other gray market dealer. The best way I can sum it up is that, if your gray market watch breaks and needs "warranty" repair, all you can do is PRAY it doesn't come back in worse condition than when it left.
