The sword-handed Seamasters have a very bright glow. You would especially notice this if you are wearing it outdoors in the sun and then you go indoors into a darkened room. A very bright glow.
Laying the watch down flat on your night-stand will prevent it from being visible to you overnight, if you are an extremely light sleeper.
As for the movie theatre, you could try turning the watch around so that it sits on the inside of your wrist if it bothers you. Seriously.
Personally, I don't find them intrusive at all as the luminosity does tend to die down a little as the hours tick away.
