Re: David and Goliath
In Response To: Re: David and Goliath ()

: Thanks William and to the others for input. I
: like the idea of an inhouse movement,
: however, I have heard that Rolex imports
: many of the components of its movements.
: Given that Omega and ETA are both owned by
: Swatch, is it drawing a long bow to say that
: the SMP then is inhouse (I know technically
: it is not)?

: It boils down to how long I can expect to get
: out of the movement on my SMP - I get all my
: watches serviced regularly (most of my
: watches are vintage) and I have only
: recently purched the SMP, and prior to that
: a B&M chronograph.

: Is the SMP movement a good quality movement for
: the long term if well tretaed and serviced?

: Thanks in anticipation.

I did own a Submariner for about 16 years, and only serviced it once. I presently have a day-date which I have had for about 16 years which I have never serviced. I understand that after about 6 years, you will have to service Omega because it slows down. I presently have a 6 year old smp chrono which seems fine. So, for sure I can tell you that Rolex will go forever withought servicing..not sure about Omega.
