First of all, the PO has a sapphire crystal. It rates a 9 on the hardness chart, with 10 (diamond) being the highest. In order to scratch it, another sapphire, ruby, or diamond must come in contact with it. Do you work in a factory that developes cutting tools? If that be the case, diamond dust could've been the cause. Also, did you buy the watch from an authorized dealer, if not, then it could be a fake......

I think John R. responded to another person about etching a design on the back of a SMP GMT. The watch had a coaxial movement and a sapphire crystal to view the delight. You may want to read that too.
