Re: Speedmaster Date vs. Breitling Chronomat

: Hello all-

: I've been looking into getting my first
: "nice" watch. I really like the
: look of the Speedmaster series, and I want
: to decide between the Speedmaster Date and
: the Breitling Chronomat Evo. I mean, is it
: really worth the extra $2000 for the COSC.
: The same could be said for getting a
: Speedmaster Broad Arrow. Any help would be
: great. Thanks.
The Speedmaster Date (the small one, not the size of the Broad Arrow) has essentially the same movement, based on the well-proven Valjoux 7750, as the Breitling Chronomat (Breitling calls it "Caliber 13"). The Chronomat Evo is much larger that the Speedy, as it is roughly the size of the old Crosswind (which, by the way, I liked better). COSC certification aside, the Breitling has a better finish and different dials to choose, all providing a nice, impressive, sporty look. It all amounts on your personal preference and the money you can share. If you can spare the extra 2000€, I suggest you have a look at the new "Legend" series of Speedmaster, COSC certified and with the 3301 movement manufactured by Piguet exclusively for Omega. It has a nice look that reminds of Daytonas of the 60s/70s.
