This is NOT normal. Don't yet blame Omega for making a poor watch. Sure, any watch maker has an occasional watch that needs servicing earlier than most. But then you may not really know how well or poorly your friend treated that watch in the year or more before he sold it to you.
Many people buy expensive watches with little to no understanding how to properly take care of them. Sometimes they abuse the watch -- completely accidentally or unknowingly. Then sell it to someone else when it no longer works as well as it should.
So you should send that watch in for service. If it has a real problem or needs a significant repair, it may be time too have a little sit down talk with your friend.
