1,000,000 to 1 chance of it happening but it can you took a big divot the balance was at its max and with jerk of the divot the roller hits the back of the pallets and snap no more roller jewel.

The only way to stop this is to tell the wife you need to play more golf so you do not take the big divots in the future.

PS the roller jewel is the jewel on the balance that impulses the balance wheel via the pallets the pallets are a 'T' shaped piece that has 2 stones at one end which goes into the Escape wheel and on the other a 2 prong fork which allows the roller jewel to release the escapement and then impulse the balance
