The serial number is on the outside of the watch. But it isn't on the caseback itself. The number is on the back of one of the bracelet lugs of the watch (aka. the "horns" of where the bracelet pins connect to te actual watch).

Be warned, if you didn't buy your watch from an authorized dealer, the numbers may have been grinded off...
