Okay, so far I've shopped this only w/ my girlfriend. She's resisting, so you all will be my first audience outside the home ....
After making a number of posts now to the James Bond threads below, I think I have the perfect next direction for Pierce Brosnan. "True Lies 2." And 3 (a minimum 2-picture deal). Obviously Arnold isn't going to do it, as he has announced he's running for Cal-ee-fornia governor again.
If you think about it, the notion works on so many levels.
"True Lies" rode the Bond coat tails and did so w/ just enough of a twist that it improved upon it. Pierce comes in and it becomes a twist upon a twist, because the obvious Bond thing is there. Next: As "Casino Royale" goes "backwards" (eg, gadgetless -- if so, a mistake), "True Lies 2" goes forward.
And who did Harry Tasker work for? OMEGA SECTOR!
Talk about brand tie ins.
I would give Pierce Brosnan an entirely new character, which I feel would have to be done anyway. I mean, how do you play the same premise twice w/ Arnold? And to have Pierce try to pretend he was Arnold, well, that would be as bad as Arnold attempting Bond. What Brosnan could bring to it would be a more subtle, "Do you really trust this guy?" thing, a'la, Thomas Crowne. Maybe he's not married, but in some sort of a we're not sure relationship, leading the audience this time to wonder if he's going to leave his love for the mission.
Give Pierce Brosnan the elbow room as well to do w/ this part what he says he wanted to do w/ Bond, more, um, "romantic" stuff, et cetera.
For continuity, bring back Tom Arnold. I'd keep these two as close as the two Toms in "True Lies #1" (as it will come to be known). Think about how well Brosnan did w/ John Cleese and you're with me.
Career wise, it's a step up for Brosnan. And, let's face it, he's done a lot of Bond-wannabe's between Bonds. So why not do "the A List"?
I'm also open to seeing "Remington Steele" return, but that's going to be DeVille territory, I think.
Gotta do something to keep that ambassador hat on w/ Omega, I think.
