Hello all,
I'm close to purchasing (i.e. this week or next!) an Omega Seamaster (Bond), but am at the juncture of choosing between Quartz and Auto. Although new to the world of watches, I'm definately intriuged by the intracacies of the auto movement.
However, I'm not a millionare, and I must be realistic as I've been saving up for this watch for some time. Obviously, the quartz is cheaper, but I'm really concerned with the cost associated with maintaining the auto over the years.
I've seen some posts on this forum discuss the cost it can take for the maintanace of an auto watch, but I wanted to get some info with concrete facts and figures.
What are the general time and costs associated with owning the auto vs. the quartz? As I understand it, the auto will need maintanance (service from Omega) every 5-10 years depending on use, and this can cost between 400 or maybe more dollars each time. On the other hand, the Quartz is just battery replacement costs every 2-3 years (much less cost).
Please let me know if this information is accurate. My plan is to keep this watch for a long time (i.e. probably never sell it) and to use it daily.
Put simply, let me know if purchasing the auto really will result in possibly spending thousands of future dollars over the next few decades -- and if the quartz will be similarly expensive.
Sorry for the long post, but as you can appreciate this is a very important purchase for me and I really want to make the right call for me -- and not be stuck with major bills in the future if I don't have to. Thanks to everyone for your input on this post and on the forum in general. Very helpful info!
Cheers,
WS
