SMP scratching and polishing the clasp

Hi!
I'm trying not to scratch the clasp, but it's not possible, so i used scotch brite for polishing the clasp as i learned about it here; it looks good again. But one thing. It looks like it scratches easier now! So i cleaned it again...wow. Now what am i thinkin is how many times it is ok to do that? Does any one have the experience about it? Is it gonna ruin the clasp if I'll clean it after each scratch? Should i wait for more scratches to build up and then take care of it or is it ok to polish it once a week or so. Does anyone have the experience about it? I just started thinking that because of the polishing I may ruin those nice engravings on the clasp...
