Re: SMP scratching and polishing the clasp

: Hi!
: I'm trying not to scratch the clasp, but it's
: not possible, so i used scotch brite for
: polishing the clasp as i learned about it
: here; it looks good again. But one thing. It
: looks like it scratches easier now! So i
: cleaned it again...wow. Now what am i
: thinkin is how many times it is ok to do
: that? Does any one have the experience about
: it? Is it gonna ruin the clasp if I'll clean
: it after each scratch? Should i wait for
: more scratches to build up and then take
: care of it or is it ok to polish it once a
: week or so. Does anyone have the experience
: about it? I just started thinking that
: because of the polishing I may ruin those
: nice engravings on the clasp...
: Thanks a lot for your opinions and experience
: in advance!
: OH I LOVE MY SMP!!!

DO NOT overdo it with the ScothBrite pads. I cannot stress that enough. Each time you do it you actually shave off a tiny bit of the metal, so if you do this too often you certainly run the risk of making the clasp look like an eyesore. Once a week is FAR too often. I would wait until you get a relatively large amount of scratches before using the pad.

Remember, when you send the watch back to Omega for servicing, they are going to professionally polish the entire watch so that it comes back looking like new. However, if you send them a watch with a clasp that is beyond repair, they'll charge you for a new one.

As you said, the clasp scratches easily, so you'll really have to accept that and just learn to live with it. Otherwise, you'll end up ruining it by over-polishing it.

Just enjoy your beautiful watch, scratches or no scratches!!!!
